Harvey Walter Markham, 85, a retired plumber and life long resident of Grand Prairie, died Monday, March 8, 2010 in a Dallas hospital.
Harvey W. Markham was born November 3, 1924, the fifth of nine children born to the late James Walter Markham and the late Emma Florence Langston Markham. Harvey attended and graduated from school in Grand Prairie, and began working in the family business, Markham shoes.
Harvey would later become a Code Inspector for the City of Grand Prairie and would also serve as Maintenance Superintendent for the Grand Prairie Independent School District. He would also be recognized as a contributor and helper to Markham plumbing, a company owned by his brothers.
He was also a life member of Rock Creek Bar-B-Que. Harvey was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army, active in various campaigns, including Central Europe, Northern France, Normandy, Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was the recipient of various medals, including a purple heart.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth "Wayne" Lee and his wife Jleetia; grandchildren, Bryan Lee and his wife Christy, Michael Lee and his wife Buffy, Matthew Lee and David Lee; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Dan Markham; sister, Mattie "Pat" York and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Henry Walter "Sonny" Markham, siblings; Hugh Markham, Arthur Markham, Lloyd Markham, Billy "Bill" Markham, Kenneth Markham and Harry Markham.
Pallbearers will be Danny Markham, Robert Markham, Doug Northcutt, Bill "Billy"Markham Jr., Mike Markham, Bryan Lee, Matthew Lee and David Lee.
Visitation: 10 to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Graveside service: 1:15 p.m., March 16, 2010 at DFW National Cemetery.
